Delhi

Delhi

Delhi – a subtle contrast of old and new, north and south, Indians and foreigners, malls and street shops, sophistication and style – is a soulful land of crowd, culture, and politics. Although it has been wrongfully placed in the news due to recent horror stories, Delhi does have some goodness that swells through its people. From being the greenest metro, with plenty of wide roads, a reliable public transportation system, an array of marketplaces, a choice of multiple cuisines, proximity to Rajasthan and the Himalayas, and its warm (though sometimes showy) people, Delhi is a world-class city waiting to be explored.

For those coming to the city to see its might, don’t forget to check these attractions:

Red Fort: An epitome of grand history, Delhi’s Red Fort has withstood the test of centuries and still reveals the glorious era in which it was built.

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib: An extraordinary experience anytime you visit, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib attracts thousands of people every year. It is very well maintained, and cleanliness is visible in every corner. You can sit by the water and let your worries fly or do the parikrama and let the peaceful environment sink in.

Swaminarayan Akshardham: A huge and exciting place with beautiful architecture, it showcases the history of Swami Narayana in a very innovative and interesting way. Please note that Akshardham doesn’t allow anyone to take their mobile phones or other electronic goods inside the premises. Though you can submit your phones at the counters before entering, it may take at least an hour to submit and retrieve your goods due to the rush. The better option is to keep it in your car/vehicle or not carry it on the day you plan to visit the temple.

Walk Across the Old Bazaars: No trip to Delhi is complete without a visit to the grand old side of the city. Although more crowded than other places, the charm of old Delhi lies in its by-lanes where business worth thousands of crores is done each hour. You can visit old temples, taste local food, buy spices, clothes, and thousands of other things, and still come out feeling the need to see it more.

Qutub Minar: Probably the tallest ancient structure still standing in northern India, Qutub Minar is a must-see place in Delhi. It is conveniently located near the yellow metro line and is open from sunrise to sunset.

Humayun's Tomb: Made famous by the recent visit of the Obamas, Humayun's Tomb is a beautiful spot to spend a lovely summer evening. The place is not very crowded and offers many locations that can serve as wonderful backgrounds for photography.

Lodi Gardens: Located in close proximity to Humayun’s Tomb, Lodi Gardens is a wonderful creation of the authorities. It offers a tranquil escape from the noise of the city. Visit anytime during the day, and you can easily catch someone else on a picnic, doing yoga, walking, playing, or simply sitting on the lush green grass and enjoying the view.
